University to award more than 50 Teaching it Forward scholarships

University partners with CCSSO for the third year

"All who call school our second home know that teaching is inspiring and frustrating, rewarding and challenging. We always work hard, we sometimes work magic, but rarely can we work miracles, needing support in all forms and particularly from the people who are key stakeholders in the educational process." - Michelle Shearer

(PHOENIX, May 4, 2011) This week Michelle Shearer was named the National Teacher of the Year, an honor bestowed by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). She was one of four State Teacher of the Year finalists and in her application she emphasized that success in the classroom is a group effort.

"As CCSSO's partner, University of Phoenix is proud and excited to support all the teachers like Michelle who make a difference in their communities," says Dr. Meredith Curley, Dean, University of Phoenix College of Education. "And, we are equally excited to offer each CCSSO State Teacher of the Year the opportunity to teach forward their education to a deserving community member through the Teaching it Forward(R) scholarship program."
